Utila

Over the weekend Mom, Dad and I took Captain Vern's catamaran to Utila. It was a beautiful sunny day for our voyage over so we laid on the trampoline at the front of the boat until we got a little sea sick. It is a 4 hour sail, only 18 miles.

We stayed at a funky hotel which the owner/artist has been creating over the past 10 years. Nearly every inch of the cabins and the grounds is covered with mosaic and even the cabins themselves are whimiscal shapes. It looks like a fairytail. There is even a treehouse bar.

Saturday we spent wandering around Utila, which is the smallest of the bay islands. Cost of living is much lower than Roatan, making the island a "backpacker's paradise." There are young divers everywhere. The diving though, is generally not as good as Roatan's reefs. There is just one town on the island and the locals and tourists are much more intermingled than on Roatan. Utila is famous for it's Whale Shark sightings, which are the biggest fish in the world.
